Controlled Photoinduced Generation of Visual Partially and Fully Charge Separated States in Viologen Analogues

Lu Liu et al.

Summary: A unique method was used to generate a partially charge separated state with a long lifetime during the decay of excited states for viologen analogues, which is significant for photochromic compounds and other applications. The findings shed light on the relaxation processes of excited states and offer a potential design strategy for multicolor photochromism and efficient light-energy conversion.

Viologen-derived material showing photochromic, visually oxygen responsive, and photomodulated luminescence behaviors

Zhao-Hao Li et al.

Summary: A new viologen-derived Zn(ii) material with a two-dimensional layered structure was synthesized in this study, exhibiting photochromic behavior and serving as a potential O-2 sensitive material in its dehydrated form. Further investigations revealed significantly different photomodulated luminescence behaviors between the original material and its dehydrated product 1a. This study expands the application of viologen derivatives in constructing new photochromic materials with rapid photochromic response.

Photochromism and photoresponsive luminescence in naphthalenediimide coordination polymers with high thermostability

Le-Tian Zhang et al.

Summary: Two novel photochromic complexes were prepared through a solvothermal method, where the selection of electron-deficient and electron-rich ligands aimed to form a complete donor-acceptor pair for photoinduced electron transfer. Both complexes exhibited interesting photochromic and photoresponsive luminescence behaviors, with the framework integrity maintained at high temperatures due to the presence of interpenetrating networks and abundant pi center dot center dot center dot pi interactions in one of the complexes.
