A metamaterial absorber is an artificial or synthetic composite material used to tailor the electromagnetic wave by controlling its properties. This study aims to design a wideband single-layer metamaterial absorber in the S-band and C-band spectrum to modify absorbance performance. The cross-shaped unit cell of the metamaterial and a metal plate were employed as the ground plate in this work. The numerical simulation's high absorbance was yielded at approximately 3-4 GHz (S-band) and 4-5.8 GHz (C-band). Meanwhile, the high absorbance from the analytical estimation was produced at approximately 1.5-4 GHz (S-band) and 4-5.2 GHz (C-band). The result showed that the numerical simulation is not entirely similar to the analytical estimation due to the calculation and approximate errors from analytical work. However, the absorbance from the numerical simulation result demonstrates excellent accordance to that of the analytical assessment. Overall, the metamaterial absorber with cross-shaped as unit cell presents high absorbance performance in the S-band and C-band spectrum.
