By overviewing the issues and challenges of NCM811 materials, as well as summarizing the modification strategies for these materials, this paper emphasizes on the future development trend and perspectives of high nickel NCM811 materials.
High nickel LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 (NCM811) cathode materials have advantages of high specific energy and relatively low-cost, so that it has a very broad application prospect in the future power lithium ion batteries. In this paper, the issues and challenges of NCM811 materials are overviewed, including the disadvantages of mixed cation discharge, weak thermal stability, poor cycle performance and storage characteristics, and safety hazard. The modification strategies for NCM811 materials, including ion doping modification, coating modification, structure design optimization are summarized and analyzed with emphasis on the future development trend and perspectives of high nickel NCM811 materials.
