Bifurcated Halogen Bonding Involving Diaryliodonium Cations as Iodine(III)-Based Double-σ-Hole Donors

Irina S. Aliyarova et al.

Summary: Three diaryliodonium tetrachloroaurates(III) were synthesized and their crystal structures revealed both three-center bifurcated halogen bonds and conventional two-center halogen bonds. Density functional theory calculations showed that the nature of these interactions is purely noncovalent, with the energies of bifurcated halogen bonds generally higher than those of two-center halogen bonds.

Unexpected Polymorphism in Bromoantimonate(III) Complexes and Its Effect on Optical Properties

Andrey N. Usoltsev et al.

Summary: The reactions of [SbBr6](3-) with HBr solutions and bromide salts of PyC22+ or 3,5-MePyC22+ form deep orange complexes with unusual Sb center dot center dot Br interactions. Further investigation reveals polymorphism in the crystal structures of these compounds and DFT calculations suggest a correlation between noncovalent Sb center dot center dot Br contacts and optical properties.

Modulation of luminescence properties for [cyclometalated]-PtII(isocyanide) complexes upon co-crystallisation with halosubstituted perfluorinated arenes

Svetlana A. Katkova et al.

Summary: Phosphorescent PtII-based cyclometalated complexes co-crystallize with bromo- and iodosubstituted perfluorinated arenes to form 1:1 adducts. X-FArenes act as both sigma h and pi h donors in these co-crystals, leading to cooperative C-XCl-Pt XBs and pi hdz2[PtII] contacts. The study of solid-state photophysics revealed a significant increase in luminescence quantum yield up to 2-fold upon co-crystallization due to the formation of cooperative noncovalent interactions.
