Effect of different fibers (steel fibers, glass fibers, and carbon fibers) on mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete

Syed Safdar Raza et al.

Summary: The study investigated the performance of reactive powder concrete (RPC) reinforced with different types of single fibers and hybrid fibers. Results showed that CF-RPC performed better in compression, while single SF-RPC had superior splitting tensile and flexural strength. The combination of 1% SF and 1% CF yielded the best overall mechanical performance among the fibers tested, with a higher contribution towards flexural strength.

COMPARISON OF FLY ASH, PVA FIBER, MGO AND SHRINKAGE-REDUCING ADMIXTURE ON THE FROST RESISTANCE OF FACE SLAB CONCRETE VIA PORE STRUCTURAL AND FRACTAL ANALYSIS

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the improvement of frost resistance of face slab concrete by adding fly ash, fiber, MgO, and shrinkage-reducing admixtures. The results suggest that the combination of PVA fiber and fly ash enhances compressive strength and tensile capacity, while MgO and SRA have a negative impact on the mechanical properties of concrete. Additionally, the frost resistance of concrete is closely related to air void parameters, pore structures, and Ds values.

PORE STRUCTURAL AND FRACTAL ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF FLY ASH AND SILICA FUME ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTY AND ABRASION RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: The addition of silica fume and fly ash can improve the mechanical properties and abrasion resistance of concrete, while reducing the risks of drying shrinkage and cracking. Concrete mixtures with 5wt.% silica fume and 20wt.% fly ash show increased abrasion resistance and mechanical properties at various ages. Both fly ash and silica fume can decrease concrete porosity and increase the pore surface fractal dimensions (Ds), resulting in desired mechanical properties and abrasion resistance.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Load Bearing Capacity of Thinned End Precast Purlin Beams and Solution Proposals

Ceyhun Aksoylu et al.

Summary: The construction sector in Turkey started using concrete prefabrication in the late 1960s, especially in industrial buildings. The main disadvantage of prefabricated structures is the damages that occur, especially in the region of hinged connection, particularly after prolonged snowfall. This study conducted numerical and experimental examinations on the behavior of thinned end purlins under vertical loading, providing a foundation for new parametric studies.

Summary: This study evaluated the mechanical parameters and fracture toughness of concretes containing noncondensed silica fume and siliceous fly ash, tested after 28 days and at an early age. The experiments demonstrated that adding silica fume to fly ash concretes significantly increases fracture toughness at an early age.

Summary: This study conducted a series of numerical modeling using the finite element program ABAQUS to investigate the shear damages of prefabricated concrete purlins (PCPs). The effects of various parameters on the shear capacity of PCPs were studied, and it was found that the most significant parameter is the orientation of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP).

Rock fracture with statistical determination of fictitious crack growth

Summary: A simple method using normal distribution and average grain size has been proposed to determine the material constants of rock, yielding statistical histograms of K-IC and f(t). By studying Delta a(fic) and design relations for different W/g(av) rock samples, along with proposed closed-form solutions for notched rock specimens, reliable predictions on experimental data and real rock structures have been achieved.

Experimental and numerical investigations of steel fiber reinforced concrete dapped-end purlins

Summary: Dapped-end beams are prone to shear damages under vertical loads, especially if precautions for thinned ends are not considered during design, leading to sudden failures under snow loads. The use of SFRC can significantly increase energy dissipation and shear capacities of beams without changing the geometry and reinforcement, with improvements of approximately 2.58 and 1.53 times, respectively.
