Does SUSY have friends? A new approach for LHC event analysis

Anna Mullin et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel technique for analyzing proton-proton collision events from the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC by using graph networks and calculating local metrics, providing accurate background estimates for particle searches. The results show improved performance compared to traditional methods, demonstrating the potential of network variables in event-by-event analysis.

Parameter estimation using neural networks in the presence of detector effects

Anders Andreassen et al.

Summary: The traditional histogram-based template fitting method used for estimating parameters of high energy physics Monte Carlo generators is being replaced by a new two-level fitting approach with neural network rewighting. This new method demonstrates the use of simulated datasets for interval estimation.

Distinguishing W′ signals at hadron colliders using neural networks

Spencer Chang et al.

Summary: This study investigates a neural-network-based hypothesis test to distinguish different W' and charged scalar resonances in hadron colliders. A multiclass classifier based on a fully connected neural network trained upon two-dimensional histograms of kinematic variables is found to be the most powerful approach. The neural network scheme presented in this paper is a powerful tool for probing the properties of charged resonances and can outperform traditional methods such as Bayesian hypothesis testing.

Learning multivariate new physics

Raffaele Tito D'Agnolo et al.

Summary: The study introduces a method that uses a multilayer perceptron to detect deviations from a reference model in large multivariate datasets without relying on any prior assumptions about the nature of the deviation. The method is sensitive to small discrepancies in datasets dominated by the reference model, and shows applicability to problems in high energy physics, particularly in detecting potential new physics signals in di-muon final states at the LHC. Comparative performance analysis with alternative methods proposed in literature was also conducted on toy problems.
