The development of iron-catalyzed trifluoromethylation reactions has attracted significant attention for producing a variety of CF3-containing compounds. The method is recognized as promising for providing highly functionalized products.
The development of effective methods to create a C-CF3 bond has attracted great attention in organofluorine chemistry and also in homogeneous catalysis. Recently, iron-catalyzed trifluoromethylation reactions have progressed widely to produce numerous CF3-containing compounds. In current years, with the arrival of transition metal-catalyzed trifluromethylation reactions, iron-catalyzed reactions are recognized to be promising for providing extremely functionalized products. This review provides an overview of the Fe-catalyzed trifluoromethylation reactions leading to the formation of various types of compounds such as amines, acids, aldehydes, ketones etc. covering the literature up to 2020.
