Flexible piezoelectric micro ultrasonic transducer array integrated on various flexible substrates

Summary: A flexible piezoelectric micro ultrasonic transducer (PMUT) array based on a bending mode has been designed and fabricated through an improved adhesive bonding process, showing excellent flexibility, mechanical stability, and acoustic performance. The array consists of 3 x 3 elements with a resonant frequency of about 161 kHz, and can be used on various flexible substrates for applications in flexible acoustic devices or wearable range finders.

Controlled Manipulation and Active Sorting of Particles Inside Microfluidic Chips Using Bulk Acoustic Waves and Machine Learning

Summary: This paper demonstrates closed-loop two-dimensional manipulation of particles inside closed-channel microfluidic chips by controlling the frequency of a single ultrasound transducer, based on machine-vision-measured positions of the particles. The use of algorithms derived from the family of multi-armed bandit algorithms enables controlled manipulation without prior information on acoustic field shapes, making the method robust to changes in chip and particle properties. The method can be applied in active sorting of particles, guiding them to exit the chip through specific outlets without the need for a model or calibration.

Acoustic Radiation Force on Small Spheres Due to Transient Acoustic Fields

Summary: This study introduces the concept of finite-duration pulses as the most general condition for deriving the acoustic radiation force. For small spheres, the Gor?kov formula is extended to unsteady acoustic fields, and the concept of acoustic contrast is suggested to express the acoustic radiation force. Experimental results show that the acoustic contrast can influence the action of the acoustic radiation force.
