Ionic Liquids for Supercapacitive Energy Storage: A Mini-Review

Ling Miao et al.

Summary: Ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely utilized in promising energy-storage systems, particularly in supercapacitors, due to their characteristic negligible vapor pressure and molecular designability. They play a crucial role in electrolyte exploitation and electrode synthesis, enhancing interfacial physicochemical interactions for superior electrode capacitances. Challenges and future outlooks associated with IL media/materials for next-generation supercapacitor applications are also discussed in the review.

A robust strategy of solvent choice to synthesize optimal nanostructured carbon for efficient energy storage

Ziyang Song et al.

Summary: This study establishes a systematic strategy to select solvents effectively for carbon synthesis, based on Hansen solubility parameter and energy difference. By mixing different grades of solvents, a range of excellent solvents can be obtained for well-designed carbons. The as-synthesized carbons exhibit sphere-like superstructure and high surface area, showing fast electrochemical kinetics and high energy density in energy storage applications.

Boron gluing nitrogen heteroatoms in a prepolymerized ionic liquid-based carbon scaffold for durable supercapacitive activity

Ling Miao et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized N/B/O-doped porous carbon scaffolds with rich electroactive sites and pre-supposed structural superiorities through designed high-crosslinking prepolymerized ionic liquid networks. The introduction of B-doped sites enhanced the stability of the scaffold, allowing it to have a high specific surface area and large capacitance.

Phosphorus-doping-induced kinetics modulation for nitrogen-doped carbon mesoporous nanotubes as superior alkali metal anode beyond lithium for high-energy potassium-ion hybrid capacitors

Jie Li et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized PNC-MeNTs with outstanding electrochemical performance for sodium and potassium storage, as well as for use as an anode in potassium-ion hybrid capacitors. These nanotubes demonstrated high specific capacities, cycling stability, and potential for high energy/power density, indicating a promising avenue for designing carbonaceous electrode candidates for future energy storage devices.
