Efficient Shapelet Discovery for Time Series Classification

Guozhong Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel efficient shapelet discovery method called BSPCOVER for constructing accurate time-series classification models. The method generates abundant candidates, prunes identical and similar candidates, and determines discriminative candidates that represent each time-series class. Any existing shapelet learning method can be used to build a classification model. Experimental results show that BSPCOVER speeds up state-of-the-art methods by more than 70 times, with comparable or higher accuracy.

Connectivity Mode Management for User Devices in Heterogeneous D2D Networks

S. Sinem Kafiloglu et al.

Summary: The Device-to-Device (D2D) paradigm is crucial for boosting network energy efficiency. Resource allocation management in heterogeneous D2D networks was studied, with a focus on mode selection optimization constrained by a total network service capacity threshold. A sub-optimal pattern search algorithm (PSA) was implemented to enhance energy efficiency, achieving the most beneficial results compared to alternative schemes while still meeting goodput thresholds. The study also examined the multi-mode nature of the heterogeneous network from energy efficiency and goodput perspectives.

An Efficient and Secure Multidimensional Data Aggregation for Fog-Computing-Based Smart Grid

Omar Rafik Merad-Boudia et al.

Summary: ESMA is an efficient and secure multi-dimensional data aggregation scheme that encrypts data into a single Paillier ciphertext for improved efficiency. It adopts the Paillier cryptosystem in a fog computing architecture for privacy protection and utilizes batch verification technique for efficient authentication. Furthermore, ESMA is fault tolerant and can adapt to various types of queries, providing performance analysis on cost efficiency, scalability, and resistance to security attacks.

Learning-in-the-Fog (LiFo): Deep Learning Meets Fog Computing for the Minimum-Energy Distributed Early-Exit of Inference in Delay-Critical IoT Realms

Enzo Baccarelli et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the optimized design and performance validation of Learning-in-the-Fog (LiFo), a novel virtualized technological platform for the minimum-energy and delay-constrained execution of the inference-phase of Conditional Deep Neural Networks (CDDNs) with early exits. The LiFo platform is designed to adaptively allocate and reconfigure computing-plus-networking resources to respond to environmental changes, while also enable aggregation of spatially-distributed IoT sensed data via an Information Centric-based networking architecture. The performance of LiFo is numerically tested under various IoT scenarios and compared against state-of-the-art benchmark solutions.
