Electrolysis-assisted UV/sulfite oxidation for water treatment with automatic adjustments of solution pH and dissolved oxygen

Long Chen et al.

Summary: A metal-free and highly efficient electro/UV/sulfite process was developed to produce sulfate radical (SO4^·-) for water treatment. This process effectively removes micropollutants and Escherichia coli from synthetic and natural water matrices.

Dual strategies to enhance mineralization efficiency in innovative electrochemical advanced oxidation processes using natural air diffusion electrode: Improving both H2O2 production and utilization efficiency

Qizhan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduced innovative EAOPs using a natural air diffusion electrode to improve H2O2 production and utilization efficiency, in combination with electro-Fenton and photoelectro-Fenton for the degradation of organic pollutants. By reducing energy consumption and proposing a new H2O2 utilization efficiency evaluation index, the study showed that the EF-PEF process had higher efficiency but was not cost-effective compared to EF alone. The EF-PEF process not only improved HUE, but also maintained high mineralization efficiency with extremely low energy consumption, outperforming most reported EAOPs in literature.

Visible Light-Induced Marine Bacterial Inactivation in Seawater by an In Situ Photo-Fenton System without Additional Oxidants: Implications for Ballast Water Sterilization

Wanjun Wang et al.

Summary: A conceptual in situ photo-Fenton system without additional oxidants was established for ballast water sterilization, utilizing a modified g-C3N4 photocatalyst to produce H2O2. The study revealed the impact of seawater parameters on inactivation efficiency and clarified bacterial inactivation mechanisms. Minimal acute toxicity and impacts on the marine environment were shown during organic matter release.
