Pulmonary Targeting of Inhalable Moxifloxacin Microspheres for Effective Management of Tuberculosis

Bhavya Vishwa et al.

Summary: The study aimed to achieve localized lung delivery of the anti-tubercular drug moxifloxacin targeting alveolar macrophages through inhalable microspheres as a dry powder inhaler method. The optimized microspheres showed preferential accumulation in lung tissue and sustained drug residence in the lung, suggesting a promising therapeutic approach for effective tuberculosis eradication and improved patient adherence to treatment.

Enhanced Cytotoxic Activity of Docetaxel-Loaded Silk Fibroin Nanoparticles against Breast Cancer Cells

Ahmed Al Saqr et al.

Summary: Despite the challenges in breast cancer therapy, the study successfully developed docetaxel (DXL)-loaded silk-fibroin-based nanoparticles (SF-NPs) with improved anticancer activity against breast cancer cell lines. The DXL-loaded SF-NPs showed enhanced cytotoxic potential and cellular uptake compared to free DXL, suggesting the potential of silk fibroin nanoparticles as a promising delivery vehicle for breast cancer treatment.

Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles by Using Green Machinery: Characterization and In Vitro Toxicity

Ahmed Al Saqr et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the efficient synthesis of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) using peel extracts of Benincasa hispida, which exhibited significant antibacterial and anticancer activities. The biosynthesized GNPs showed spherical shape with an average particle size of 22.18 +/- 2 nm, and exerted cytotoxic effects on human cervical cancer cells while sparing normal cells. Such cytotoxicity was attributed to the increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Overall, B. hispida peel extracts can be a natural source of antimicrobial and anticancer agents through the synthesis of GNPs.

Folic acid-conjugated raloxifene-loaded graphene-based nanocarrier: Fabrication, characterization and antitumor screening

Amr S. Abu Lila et al.

Summary: This study investigates the potential antitumor activity of a nanocarrier based on graphene oxide and folic acid loaded with the selective estrogen receptor modulator raloxifene hydrochloride on breast cancer cells in vitro. The functionalized graphene nanoribbons show efficient cellular uptake and cytotoxic effects against both MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines. Further research on in vivo fate and long-term toxicity is necessary before full utilization in biomedical applications.

Tamoxifen-loaded functionalized graphene nanoribbons for breast cancer therapy

Amr S. Abu Lila et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among females worldwide, and current treatment strategies include surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormone therapy. Graphene nanoribbons show potential for efficient cellular internalization and high target specificity for cancer cells. The synthesized tamoxifen-loaded oxidized graphene nanoribbons decorated with folic acid have shown promising results in reducing cell viability and inducing apoptosis in breast cancer cell lines.
