This paper discusses the causes and hazards of acid mine drainage, compares different treatment methods, particularly focusing on the research progress of sulfate-reducing bacteria method in recent years. It discusses the current research status in China and predicts future research directions.
Acid mine drainage (AMD) is highly associated with the exposure of material compositions to water and air because of mining activities, The acidic mine wastewater formed by the oxidation of sulfur containing substances in the ore is highly acidic, contains heavy metals and sulfates, and severely harms the soil and water environment around the mine. Many methods are used in the treatment of acid mine wastewater, which can be divided into physical method, chemical method and biological method. Among them, the biological treatment method of sulfate-reducing bacteria is one of the research hotspots in recent years. In this paper, we compare the advantages and disadvantages of physical technology, chemical technology, and biotechnology in repairing AMD, and focus on summarizing the research progress of the mechanism, method, and application process of sulfate-reducing bacteria in repairing acid mine wastewater. Finally, we discussed in detail the current status of research and application of SRB governance in China in recent years. and predicted the future research direction of sulfate reducing bacteria.
