Applications of carbon dots on tumour theranostics

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: The use of carbon dots (CDs) in tumor theranostics has shown promise due to their tunable fluorescence emission, good photostability, high water solubility, and biocompatibility. Recent research has focused on their preparation, hydrophilicity, biotoxicity, optical properties, and applications in multimodal bioimaging and drug delivery. Specifically, the targeting strategy involving large amino acid-mimicking carbon quantum dots through a large neutral amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1) has been highlighted. Future directions and challenges in utilizing CDs for tumor theranostics are also discussed.
