With the rapid economic development, the distribution of urban landscapes has become a focal point, with construction land continuously expanding at the expense of agricultural land, forestry land, and water patch resources. Analysis shows an overall trend of expansion for construction land patches, while agricultural land, forestry land, and grassland have suffered damages initially but are increasingly concentrated in recent years under the concept of sustainable development.
With the rapid economic development, ecological and environmental problems have become increasingly prominent. In the process of urban development planning and construction, the distribution of landscape ecology has gradually become the focus of attention. In this paper, the basic concepts of landscape ecology are described in detail, and then a method of evaluating and analyzing urban landscapes using patch dynamics theory is proposed. The patch dynamics theory was used to evaluate the landscape changes of a city in northern China, and it was concluded that the landscape patches of the entire city changed significantly from 1990 to 2020. Agricultural land patches have a trend of first increasing and then decreasing, while forestry land and grassland patches have a trend of first decreasing and then increasing. The patch area of construction land changed most obviously, which increased from 71 806.36 hm2 to 114 879.67 hm2, and its proportion increased from 10.68% to 16.72%. This shows that with the rapid development of the entire city, construction land has been continuously expanded, which has occupied agricultural land, forestry land and water patch resources. From the analysis of the patch index, it is concluded that the patches of construction land show an overall trend of expansion, while agricultural land, forestry land and grassland have suffered certain damages in the initial stage of economic development. Driven by the concept of sustainable development, its concentration has increased in recent years.
