A microfluidic approach to rapid sperm recovery from heterogeneous cell suspensions

Steven A. Vasilescu et al.

Summary: Separation of sperm cells from a mixed suspension of background cells and debris using inertial microfluidics technology significantly improves sperm recovery rate and does not impact sperm parameters. This technology has great potential for non-motile sperm recovery and simplifying fertility outcomes for severe male infertility cases requiring surgery.

Differential impact of four sperm preparation techniques on sperm motility, morphology, DNA fragmentation, acrosome status, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial activity: A prospective study

Georges Raad et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of four sperm preparation techniques on sperm functional parameters. Results showed that semen swim-up was more effective than density gradient in selecting better spermatozoa in terms of DNA integrity, reactive oxygen species levels, acrosome status, and mitochondrial activity.

FertDish: microfluidic sperm selection-in-a-dish for intracytoplasmic sperm injection

Sa Xiao et al.

Summary: FertDish is a new tool for assisted reproduction technology that allows for rapid selection of high quality sperm, resulting in improvements in DNA fragmentation index, viability, and distribution of sperm with high DNA levels. It is faster, more convenient, and easily adaptable to the clinical workflow compared to traditional methods.
