Tracking the Footprints of Spin Fluctuations: A MultiMethod, MultiMessenger Study of the Two-Dimensional Hubbard Model

Thomas Schaefer et al.

Summary: The study compared various quantum many-body methods using the Hubbard model in different physical regimes, such as incoherent, metallic, and insulating with pseudogap created by antiferromagnetic fluctuations, in order to assess their ability to address these regimes and crossovers. Through computational and analytical analysis, the role of spin fluctuations and the accuracy of dynamical mean-field theory in approximating local quantities in the metallic regime were elucidated. Additionally, the study critically discussed the ability of imaginary-time methods to capture the non-Fermi-liquid singularities in the system.

Coupling a Mobile Hole to an Antiferromagnetic Spin Background: Transient Dynamics of a Magnetic Polaron

Geoffrey Ji et al.

Summary: Understanding the interplay between charge and spin in quantum many-body systems, particularly in the Fermi-Hubbard model, is crucial for explaining emergent properties like high-temperature superconductivity. This study used a cold-atom quantum simulator to observe the formation and spreading dynamics of magnetic polarons, revealing the strong coupling between density and spin in their formation process. It provides insights into out-of-equilibrium emergent phenomena in the Fermi-Hubbard model.

Evidence of attraction between charge carriers in a doped Mott insulator

Emil Blomquist et al.

Summary: Recent advances in optically trapped ultracold atomic gases have enabled access to microscopic observables in doped Mott insulators, addressing questions about attraction between charge carriers and their mechanisms. By employing the worm-algorithm Monte Carlo method, unbiased results for two charge carriers in a Mott insulator have been obtained, allowing access to lower temperatures than current experiments and providing evidence for attraction between dopants at feasible temperature scales in ultracold atomic systems.
