Adolescents' internalization of moral values: the role of paternal and maternal promotion of volitional functioning

Daniela Barni et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between adolescents' motivations to internalize moral values and parental promotion of volitional functioning. The results showed that maternal promotion of volitional functioning was significantly and positively associated with identified and integrated motivations for internalizing moral values, regardless of adolescents' gender and age. Implications for the internalization process and parent-adolescent relationships are discussed.
