Gold Catalysis Meets Materials Science - A New Approach to π-Extended Indolocarbazoles

Christoph M. Hendrich et al.

Summary: A modular, convergent synthesis method was successfully used to synthesize substituted benzo[a]benzo[6,7]-indolo[2,3-h]carbazoles, with a bidirectional gold-catalyzed cyclization reaction as a key step. By utilizing a building block strategy, different substituents could be easily varied at various positions of the core structure, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the materials properties of the target compounds. Experimentally and computationally studied optical and electronic properties of the fully characterized BBICZs revealed charge-carrier mobilities up to 1 cm(2)/Vs in organic thin-film transistors based on eight selected derivatives.

Gold-Catalyzed Synthesis of π-Extended Carbazole-Based Systems and their Application as Organic Semiconductors

Christoph M. Hendrich et al.

Summary: This study presents a gold-catalyzed bidirectional synthesis method for N-heteropolycyclic compounds bearing carbazole moieties, resulting in the synthesis of four previously unknown core structures. The approach is convergent and modular, with a key step involving a gold-catalyzed cascade reaction starting from stable di-azido compounds. The synthesized molecules were fully characterized, and their optical and electronic properties, as well as their performance in organic thin-film transistors generated by vacuum deposition, were studied, with charge-carrier mobilities of up to 0.3 cm(2)/Vs measured.

Catalytic enantioselective synthesis of indolizino[8,7-b]indole alkaloid derivatives based on the tandem reaction of tertiary enamides

Xin-Ming Xu et al.

Summary: A novel catalytic asymmetric tandem reaction of tertiary enamides was developed using a chiral Diph-Pybox/Cu(OTf)(2) complex. The method allows for the expedited synthesis of indolizino[8,7-b]indole derivatives with high yields and excellent enantioselectivity and diastereoselectivity.
