Optically Probing Field-Dependent Charge Dynamics in Non-Fullerene Organic Photovoltaics with Small Interfacial Energy Offsets

Xinhui Zou et al.

Summary: This study investigates charge dynamics in three model non-fullerene systems with varying energy offsets using optical spectroscopy. Systems with small or negative energy offsets show low photocurrent generation yields and significant radiative recombination. Improved photocurrent generation and suppressed exciton emission are observed under reverse bias, indicating that external electric fields facilitate separation of bound charge pairs at the donor/acceptor interface.

Over 14% Efficiency Single-Junction Organic Solar Cells Enabled by Reasonable Conformation Modulating in Naphtho[2,3-b:6,7-b′]difuran Based Polymer

Bing Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel furan fused-ring derivative NDF-3T was designed and synthesized for efficient photovoltaic materials. The NDF-3T-based device exhibited a high PCE of 14.21%, outperforming the analogue NDT counterpart (10.86%). This development shows great potential for constructing highly efficient photovoltaic materials and can serve as a reference for other furan fused-ring structures.

Simple Non-Fused Electron Acceptors Leading to Efficient Organic Photovoltaics

Tian-Jiao Wen et al.

Summary: Despite recent progress, organic photovoltaics (OPVs) still need to work on balancing efficiency, stability, and cost. This study developed two non-fused electron acceptors which, when blended with a specific polymer, achieved the highest reported efficiency for fully unfused electron acceptors.

Non-fullerene acceptors with branched side chains and improved molecular packing to exceed 18% efficiency in organic solar cells

Chao Li et al.

Summary: The molecular design of acceptor and donor molecules has significantly advanced organic photovoltaics. By introducing branched alkyl chains in non-fullerene acceptors, favorable morphology in the active layer can be achieved, leading to a certified device efficiency of 17.9%. This modification can completely alter the molecular packing behavior of non-fullerene acceptors, resulting in improved structural order and charge transport in thin films.

Precise Synthesis of Fused Decacyclic Electron Acceptor Isomers for Organic Solar Cells

Bing Lu et al.

Summary: Two intermediates were synthesized to isomerize naphthalene-based decacyclic fused-ring electron acceptors FTIC1 and FTIC2. FTIC1 and FTIC2 share similar optical properties, with FTIC2 showing higher absorbance and electron mobility. FTIC2-based devices exhibit higher efficiency and current density in organic solar cells.
