Mir-30d Regulates Cardiac Remodeling by Intracellular and Paracrine Signaling

Jin Li et al.

Summary: miR-30d can improve cardiac function and reduce fibrosis by targeting MAP4K4 and integrin alpha 5, showing a protective effect in ischemic heart failure. The communication of extracellular vesicle-contained miRNAs may provide a novel therapeutic target in heart failure treatment.

Engineering Human Cardiac Muscle Patch Constructs for Prevention of Post-infarction LV Remodeling

Lu Wang et al.

Summary: Tissue engineering combines engineering and biology to generate living tissue equivalents for drug testing, disease modeling, and regenerative medicine. Progress has been made in developing engineered human cardiac muscle patch (hCMP) and heart tissue analogs, but major obstacles remain, including inadequate scalability, poor integration and engraftment rate, and the lack of functional vasculature. Advanced technologies such as micropatterning and three-dimensional bioprinting have enabled fabrication of hCMP architectures at unprecedented resolution, but challenges still need to be addressed for in vivo tissue repair using hCMP-based strategies.

AAV-mediated YAP expression in cardiac fibroblasts promotes inflammation and increases fibrosis

Jamie Francisco et al.

Summary: Fibrosis is a hallmark of heart disease and the mechanisms that regulate fibroblast differentiation and fibrotic responses are not fully understood. Studies show that overexpression of YAP in cardiac fibroblasts can lead to increased fibrosis and inflammation, negatively impacting cardiac function.

Extracellular matrix influences astrocytic extracellular vesicle function in wound repair

Pearl A. Sutter et al.

Summary: The study reveals that astrocytic extracellular vesicles (EVs) and injury responses are influenced by the extracellular matrix (ECM) on which the astrocytes are cultured. EVs from astrocytes cultured on different ECM substrates can elicit distinct injury responses in naive astrocytes, affecting wound recovery rates. The findings suggest that the ECM composition plays a significant role in modulating astrocytic responses and EV functions, which could provide insights into astroglial responses in various physiological states.
