Total phosphorus and climate are equally important predictors of water quality in lakes

Arnab Shuvo et al.

Summary: Nutrient inputs, climate, and lake geomorphometry have significant impacts on primary production in freshwater lakes globally, with total phosphorus being a major driver. Efforts to mitigate water quality degradation need to not only focus on nutrient management, but also consider the synergistic effects of climatic factors in water quality management.

Role of Models in the Decision-Making Process in Integrated Urban Water Management: A Review

Leila Mosleh et al.

Summary: Managing urban water systems requires the integration of stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water sectors, and choosing the right modeling tools is crucial for decision making. The wide range of available IUWM models with varying capabilities presents challenges for users in selecting an appropriate model for their specific objectives. While most models focus on supply and demand, wastewater management, and stormwater management, there is still room for improvement in areas such as considering social factors and policy aspects in IUWM.

The intersection of economic demand for ecosystem services and public policy: A watershed case study exploring implications for social-ecological resilience

Matthew Retallack

Summary: This article discusses the dependence of regional economies on water-based ecosystem services, proposing two principles for conceptualizing the linkages between ecological and economic systems. Using the Mississippi Valley watershed in Ontario, Canada as a case study, areas of high economic demand for water-based ecosystem services were identified. Additionally, the existing policy framework was evaluated for its ability to manage these systems-based considerations.
