Stimuli-Responsive Iron Oxide Nanotheranostics: A Versatile and Powerful Approach for Cancer Therapy

Morgan E. Lorkowski et al.

Summary: Recent advancements have emphasized the importance of a holistic approach in cancer treatment, with iron oxide nanoparticles showing promise in seeking, sensing, and attacking solid tumors. These nanoparticles can be integrated with various stimulus mechanisms for the development of effective cancer therapy, co-delivering potent anticancer therapeutics and immune modulators. Future directions for clinical translation are also considered.

Immunostimulatory nanoparticle incorporating two immune agonists for the treatment of pancreatic tumors

M. E. Lorkowski et al.

Summary: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is a highly malignant disease with poor outcomes even with aggressive chemotherapy, however, immunotherapy shows promise in eliciting T cell-mediated killing of tumor cells. The immunotherapeutic approach developed in this study effectively activates and expands antigen-presenting cells in tumors, leading to an increase in IFN beta production and expansion of dendritic cells and lymphocyte infiltration, offering a potential new treatment avenue for PDAC.
