Enzymatically produced cellulose nanocrystals as reinforcement for waterborne polyurethane and its applications

Borja Alonso-Lerma et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of CNCs produced using ancestral endoglucanase as reinforcement for WBPUs, resulting in highly thermally stable and crystalline cellulose nanocrystals. The addition of small contents of EnCNCs improved the thermomechanical stability and mechanical properties of WBPUs, even outperforming commercial AcCNCs. Additionally, the study explored the application of EnCNC-reinforced WBPU as a coating for paper materials and electrospun nanocomposite mats, demonstrating enhanced abrasion resistance and maintenance of fiber morphology.

Effect of Cellulose Nanofibrils on the Properties of Jatropha Oil-Based Waterborne Polyurethane Nanocomposite Film

Mohamad Ridzuan Amri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) on Jatropha oil-based waterborne polyurethane (WBPU) nanocomposite films, confirming that the addition of CNF can significantly enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of the films. The highest improvement in tensile strength, Young's modulus, and thermal degradation was observed in the nanocomposite film with 0.5 wt.% CNF loading.
