Sand supply and dune grass species density affect foredune shape along the US Central Atlantic Coast

Katya R. Jay et al.

Summary: Coastal foredunes are important for protecting coastlines from hazards and predicting their future changes requires understanding the roles of physical and ecological processes. In this study, the relative importance of sand supply, beach morphology, and vegetation in determining foredune morphology along the US Central Atlantic coast was assessed. The results showed that multidecadal sand supply rate and beach width had the most significant impact on foredune height and width, while grass density and species contributed significantly to foredune morphology change.
