Chemical Bonding Governs Complex Magnetism in MnPt5P

Summary: Subtle changes in chemical bonds can lead to significant revolutions in magnetic properties, as demonstrated by the discovery of the rare-earth-free ferromagnetic material MnPt5P presented in this study. MnPt5P exhibits antiferromagnetic behavior with strong magnetic anisotropy, in contrast to the ferromagnetism observed in MnPt5As. The study highlights the critical role of hybridization of Mn-3d and Pt-5d orbitals in determining the structural stability and magnetic properties of these materials.
