Naphthylphthalamic acid associates with and inhibits PIN auxin transporters

Lindy Abas et al.

Summary: NPA is a key inhibitor of directional auxin transport in plants, acting by directly inhibiting PINs. Research also shows an effect of NPA on PIN dimerization, offering insights into structural aspects of PINs related to their transport mechanism.

Polar auxin transport May Be responsive to specific features of flavonoid structure

Xudong Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that flavonoids with a 6-hydroxyl group, unlike known flavonoid-PAT inhibitors, can promote polar auxin transport in roots, leading to increased root length and changes in root tissue structure. In contrast, flavonoids without a 6-hydroxyl group may have opposite or no effects on root growth.

Flavonol-mediated stabilization of PIN efflux complexes regulates polar auxin transport

William D. Teale et al.

Summary: The composition and regulation of the PIN protein complex involved in auxin transport were investigated using blue-native PAGE and quantitative mass spectrometry. It was found that endogenous flavonols stabilize PIN dimers to regulate auxin efflux. This mechanism can be countered by auxin transport inhibitors and specific amino acids.
