Systemic propagation of immunity in plants

A. Corina Vlot et al.

Summary: Systemic immunity in plants can be triggered by pathogens interacting with leaves (SAR) or beneficial microbes interacting with roots (ISR), each pathway involving specific signals and molecules. These pathways interact to regulate inter-plant defense propagation, affecting plant-plant interactions and the composition of the plant microbiome.

Fungicide Resistance Evolution and Detection in Plant Pathogens: Plasmopara viticola as a Case Study

Federico Massi et al.

Summary: The use of single-site fungicides can lead to increased resistance selection in plant pathogens, presenting a challenge in disease control. Frequent fungicide applications in vineyards may elevate the risk of resistance development. Plasmopara viticola, the causal agent of grapevine downy mildew, has developed resistance to most fungicide classes used, posing a significant threat to grapevine production.

Bioactivity and Control Efficacy of the Novel Antibiotic Tetramycin against Various Kiwifruit Diseases

Qiuping Wang et al.

Summary: Tetramycin, a novel polyene agriculture antibiotic, demonstrated superior antimicrobial activity and field control efficacy against kiwifruit pathogens. Compared to conventional antibiotics, Tetramycin showed higher EC50 values. Its application increased fruit resistance substances, activated fruit enzymes, promoted fruit growth, improved fruit quality, and storability.

Comparative ultrastructure of trichomes on various organs of Rosa roxburghii

Dao-Jing Wang et al.

Summary: The ultrastructure of trichomes on stem, sepal, and fruit of Chestnut rose R. roxburghii Tratt. (RR) and the smooth-fruit cultivar R. roxburghii Tratt. f. esetosa Ku (RRE) was investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Variations in trichome cell ultrastructure between the two germplasms suggest possible implications for trichome development processes or biological functions. Further research on trichome ontogeny in these species could lead to breeding of smooth organ traits.

A biopolymer with antimicrobial properties and plant resistance inducer against phytopathogens: Chitosan

Juan A. Torres-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Chitosan, a natural biopolymer, has been used as an alternative to synthetic fungicides in agriculture due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, and bioactivity. It acts as a bio-fungicide and growth promoter for plants, with antimicrobial properties and plant defense induction mechanisms.

Chitosan Augments Tetramycin against Soft Rot in Kiwifruit and Enhances Its Improvement for Kiwifruit Growth, Quality and Aroma

Qiuping Wang et al.

Summary: The co-application of chitosan and tetramycin was found to effectively enhance resistance against kiwifruit soft rot, improve fruit growth, enhance fruit quality, and increase fruit aroma. Chitosan acted as an adjuvant to enhance tetramycin's efficacy in controlling soft rot and promoting overall fruit improvements, indicating a potential combination for disease management in kiwifruit cultivation.

Botanical characteristics, phytochemistry and related biological activities of Rosa roxburghii Tratt fruit, and its potential use in functional foods: a review

Li-Tao Wang et al.

Summary: Due to the impact of growing global population, reduction in arable land, and effects of climate change, the incongruity between food supply and demand has become a pressing issue. The development of modern agricultural techniques has led to underutilised functional foods being recognized as an important strategy for solving food security problems. Rosa roxburghii Tratt (RRT) is a natural fruit with high antioxidant potential, making it a promising candidate for functional food development to meet the demand for health-promoting properties in food products.
