Recent Advances of CeO2-Based Electrocatalysts for Oxygen and Hydrogen Evolution as well as Nitrogen Reduction

Xue-Zhi Song et al.

Summary: High-performance electrocatalysts have been intensively studied and widely explored to improve energy conversion efficiency in advanced electrochemical technologies. CeO2, a vital rare-earth oxide, shows great promise in catalysis due to its feasible redox feature and structural robustness, which can enhance the electrocatalytic activity and durability of CeO2-based hybrids. Recent research focuses on hybrid materials between CeO2 and other functional species for oxygen, hydrogen, and nitrogen electrochemical reactions.

Evaluation of a continuous flow microbial fuel cell for treating synthetic swine wastewater containing antibiotics

Dongle Cheng et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the performance of a double-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) in treating synthetic swine wastewater containing sulfonamide antibiotics. Results showed that the MFC operated better under the sequential anode-cathode mode, with higher removal efficiency of pollutants, although the removal efficiency of antibiotics still needs improvement. Antbiotics exerted toxic effects on microorganisms in the MFC.

The high enrichment of Geobacter by TiN nanoarray anode catalyst for efficient microbial fuel cells

Da Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the TiN nanoarrays on carbon cloth as the anode can efficiently gather a high percentage of the model exoelectrogen Geobacter. The micro-nano-hierarchical structure of the nanoarrays not only provides more accessible surface area for exoelectrogens, but also resembles bridge structures that reduce mass transport limitations during anolyte flow.
