Quantitative analysis of hydrogen isotopes gas mixtures by cryogenic chromatography using low loading MOFs as stationary phase

Min Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a low loading composite Ni(2)Cl(2)BBTA@gamma-Al2O3 was successfully prepared as a stationary phase for gas chromatographic separations of ternary hydrogen isotope gas mixtures, achieving excellent separation resolution and baseline separation of H-2/HD within a short time. This MOFs modified composite demonstrated high efficiency quantitative analysis for hydrogen isotopes gas mixtures compared to traditional gas chromatography stationary phase.

Adsorption separation of heavier isotope gases in subnanometer carbon pores

Sanjeev Kumar Ujjain et al.

Summary: Isotope separation of heavier gases is crucial for biomedical applications, but current methods are energy-intensive and time-consuming. A new cryogenic adsorption-based technology utilizing nanoporous materials and collective nuclear quantum effects shows promise for rapid and efficient oxygen and methane isotope separation.

Activated carbon prepared from catechol distillation residue for efficient adsorption of aromatic organic compounds from aqueous solution

Qing Liu et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized residue activated carbon (RAC) from catechol distillation residue, which showed high adsorption capacity for catechol, phthalic acid, and dimethyl phthalate. The adsorption process of RAC was dominated by pi-pi interactions, with the potential for regeneration after multiple cycles.

Exploiting the Specific Isotope-Selective Adsorption of Metal-Organic Framework for Hydrogen Isotope Separation

Raeesh Muhammad et al.

Summary: The use of cobalt formate in isotope-responsive separation showed a promising potential, with a D-2/H-2 selectivity of up to 44 at 25 K/1 bar. The discovery of a D-2-responsive third sorption step enhanced the uptake difference between D-2 and H-2, making the separation performance more efficient. Scaling up the synthesis of cobalt formate on a gram-scale presents a prospect for commercialization.

Tuning Polymorphs and Morphology of Microbially Induced Calcium Carbonate: Controlling Factors and Underlying Mechanisms

Maryam Khanjani et al.

Summary: This study investigates how bacterial activity, solution chemistry, and precipitation kinetics influence the polymorphism and morphology of microbially precipitated calcium carbonate induced by Sporosarcina pasteurii. The results show that in the presence of sufficient calcium ions and urea, vaterite formation is favored. Morphological observations reveal important information on particle microstructure, with calcite evolving from single crystal to polycrystalline structures and vaterite evolving from spherical to oval-shaped structures. Specific functional groups exert control on the morphology of CaCO3 polymorphs, with calcite being more sensitive to these groups compared to vaterite.

Physical and chemical activation mechanisms of carbon materials based on the microdomain model†

Inchan Yang et al.

Summary: The physical and chemical activation mechanisms of carbon materials were investigated, with physical activation involving non-selective removal of carbon from the surface of carbon particles, and chemical activation selectively removing non-graphitic parts. High activation temperatures are needed for physical activation to obtain highly porous carbon, while low temperature chemical activation rapidly converts carbon particles into highly porous activated carbon.
