Green synthesis of hydrophilic activated carbon supported sulfide nZVI for enhanced Pb(II) scavenging from water: Characterization, kinetics, isotherms and mechanisms

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: In this study, green tea extracts were used as a reductant for the green synthesis of nZVI with low aggregation and high antioxidation, which was further modified with hydrophilic porous activated carbon and sulfidation technology. The results indicated the successful preparation of porous activated carbon with microporous and mesoporous characteristics and effective loading of S-nZVI nanoparticles. The S-nZVI@HPAC showed excellent pH-dependent adsorption performance for Pb(II) with fast kinetic equilibrium and outstanding binding capacity.

Synthesis of sponge-like TiO2 with surface-phase junctions for enhanced visible-light photocatalytic performance

Yue Jiang et al.

Summary: Maximizing adsorption and catalytic active sites, as well as promoting photo-excited charge separation, are crucial for achieving excellent photocatalytic performance. This study demonstrates the synthesis of non-metal doped TiO2 with a sponge-like structure and surface-phase junctions using a sol-gel approach, leading to enhanced photocatalytic efficiency.

Biochar aging: Properties, mechanisms, and environmental benefits for adsorption of metolachlor in soil

Lu Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the aging process of biochar in soil was simulated using burial, oxidation, and acidification methods, revealing changes in physicochemical properties and structure. Aging led to increased hydrophilicity, decreased aromaticity, and damaged surface pore structures of biochar. Adsorption performance varied after aging, but could be quantitatively described using the Langmuir model. The study provides theoretical support for the practical application of biochar aging in soil.

Preparation of mesoporous batatas biochar via soft-template method for high efficiency removal of tetracycline

Zhihong Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel hydrothermal mesoporous biochar (HMC-800) was synthesized using a soft-template-assisted hydrothermal route for the adsorptive removal of tetracycline (TC) from wastewater. HMC-800 exhibited the highest specific surface area and total pore volume among all studied biochar samples, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 238.7 mg/g. The biochar showed superior adsorption performance compared to other samples, and demonstrated good regeneration and reuse capabilities.

New use for biochar derived from bovine manure for tetracycline removal

Jiawei Zhao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the physicochemical properties of bovine manure biochar obtained at different temperatures and their adsorption of tetracycline. The results showed that both BC-500 and BC-700 had high TC removal rates, with different maximum adsorption capacities, and were well described by pseudo-second order kinetics. Even after multiple cycles, the biochar still maintained satisfactory removal efficiencies, mainly through hydrophobic interactions and pi-pi electron donor acceptor interactions.
