From the black hole conundrum to the structure of quantum gravity

Yasunori Nomura

Summary: The article discusses two descriptions of quantum gravity, which present different pictures in addressing various issues of black hole physics but lead to the same physical conclusions. The perspective developed here is expected to have broader implications beyond black hole physics.

Entanglement Entropy in a Holographic Moving Mirror and the Page Curve

Ibrahim Akal et al.

Summary: In this study, the time evolution of entanglement entropy in a two-dimensional conformal field theory with a moving mirror was calculated using holography. It was found that in a setup modeling Hawking radiation, entanglement entropy exhibits linear growth, which can be interpreted as the production of entangled pairs, while in a setup mimicking black hole formation and evaporation, the evolution follows the ideal Page curve. The gravity dual of the moving mirror model constructed via holography provides a concrete model to derive the Page curve for black hole radiation in the strong coupling regime of gravity.

Bra-ket wormholes in gravitationally prepared states

Yiming Chen et al.

Summary: This text discusses two-dimensional CFT states produced by gravitational path integrals, focusing on cases of Euclidean AdS(2) evolution and Lorentzian dS(2) evolution followed by flat space evolution. It is found that naive hyperbolic space geometry leads to paradoxes, which can be resolved by incorporating bra-ket wormholes. Despite issues with divergent temperatures, projection onto low energy states reveals similarities with the previous Euclidean case, suggesting a connection between maximum entropy and de Sitter entropy.

Islands in de Sitter space

Vijay Balasubramanian et al.

Summary: We study black holes in 2D de Sitter JT gravity coupled to a CFT, entangled with matter in a non-gravitating universe. The entropy of the entangled matter increases indefinitely with entanglement strength, but must level off due to monogamy. The competition between field theory entanglement entropy and extremal islands in the de Sitter geometry plays a key role in stabilizing the entropy growth.

Pure de Sitter space and the island moving back in time

Watse Sybesma

Summary: In de Sitter space, using the quantum Ryu-Takayanagi or island formula, entanglement entropy between states inside and outside the cosmological horizon was computed, resulting in the formation of an 'island' at the transition point which is significantly different from black hole horizons and may move back in time. These differences are crucial for non-violation of the no-cloning theorem in entanglement wedge reconstruction. Additionally, the introduction of a scrambling time reveals an entropy dependence expected for black holes.

Cosmological singularities, entanglement and quantum extremal surfaces

A. Manu et al.

Summary: This study examines aspects of entanglement and extremal surfaces in spacetimes showcasing cosmological, Big-Crunch, singularities, particularly isotropic AdS Kasner. The classical extremal surface bends away from the singularity in the bulk radial and time directions. Quantum extremal surfaces are always driven to the semiclassical region far from the singularity.

The entropy of Hawking radiation

Ahmed Almheiri et al.

Summary: This review discusses recent progress on the black hole information problem, focusing on a new understanding of calculating the entropy of Hawking radiation. It shows how the method for computing gravitational fine-grained entropy can be extended to account for the entropy of Hawking radiation, revealing significant corrections needed for consistency with unitary black hole evaporation.

Summary: This paper studies cosmological circuit complexity in the presence or absence of quantum extremal islands in negative or positive cosmological constants. It concludes the non-universality of these measures in different parameter space, suggesting their dependence on the parameters of the model under consideration.

The price of curiosity: information recovery in de Sitter space

Lars Aalsma et al.

Summary: Recent research has shown that quantum extremal islands can contribute to the fine-grained entropy of black hole radiation, reproducing the unitary Page curve. In de Sitter space, an observer may be able to decode information hidden behind the cosmological horizon, but this could potentially lead to the observer hitting a singularity that forms earlier than the Page time.

Information paradox and its resolution in de Sitter holography

Hao Geng et al.

Summary: The study formulates a version of the information paradox in de Sitter spacetime, which is resolved by the emergence of entanglement islands as shown in the De Sitter/de Sitter correspondence, leading to a time-dependent Page curve for the entanglement entropy. It suggests that the distribution of microscopic degrees of freedom depends on descriptions, with differences between the static and global descriptions of de Sitter spacetime.

Island finder and entropy bound

Raphael Bousso et al.

Summary: The paper presents a set of conditions that ensure the existence of an entanglement island and set an upper bound on the entropy, making it possible to derive the main features of the Page curve for an evaporating black hole in any spacetime dimension. This argument utilizes Wall's maximin formulation and the quantum focusing conjecture, resulting in a novel entropy bound as a corollary.

Black hole interior in unitary gauge construction

Yasunori Nomura

Summary: A quantum system with a black hole can be described in two ways, one based on general relativity with nonperturbative quantum gravity effects, and the other adopting a manifestly unitary or holographic description. The latter approach, known as the unitary gauge construction, focuses on the emergence of the interior as a collective phenomenon of fundamental degrees of freedom. The formation of a black hole is characterized by specific dynamical properties of a surface, allowing for construction of interior operators without relying on microscopic physics details.

Critical islands

Summary: The article discusses a doubly-holographic prescription for black holes in braneworlds with a vanishing cosmological constant, involving calculating Ryu-Takayanagi surfaces in AdS black funnel spacetimes. The approach is useful for cosmological black holes interacting with deconfined, large-N matter. The study provides evidence for cosmological islands in these braneworld systems.
