MOF-Directed Synthesis of Crystalline Ionic Liquids with Enhanced Proton Conduction

Wen-Long Xue et al.

Summary: By designing a reliable coordination self-assembly method, a crystalline IL for IL1MOF was successfully achieved. IL1MOF has a structure with long-range ordered arrangement and high ionic conductivity, maintaining high conductivity even in subzero temperatures as low as -150 degrees Celsius.

Multivariate Sulfonic-Based Titanium Metal-Organic Frameworks as Super-protonic Conductors

Shyamapada Nandi et al.

Summary: By utilizing a multicomponent ligand replacement strategy, the proton-conducting performances of a microporous Ti-based metal-organic framework were successfully tuned, introducing sulfonic acid groups as a source of Bronsted acidic sites. The best candidate with high proton conductivity values and structural integrity was further examined using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, revealing the proton transfer mechanism through a fast Zundel/hydronium interconversion along a continuous H-bonded network.

Metal-organic frameworks as proton conductors: strategies for improved proton conductivity

Kumar Biradha et al.

Summary: Recent studies on proton conductivity using pristine MOFs and their composite materials have shown potential for high performance solid state proton conductors and proton exchange membranes in fuel cells. MOFs provide a large number of degrees of freedom in framework composition, coordination environment, and chemically functionalized pores for the targeted design of improved proton carriers functioning over a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions. This review aims to direct readers' attention towards design strategies and structure-property relationship for proton transport in MOFs.
