By in situ growing a Ni-based MOF onto Ni(OH)(2) nanosheets, the oxygen evolution reaction was effectively suppressed, leading to efficient electrocatalytic oxidation of biomass-derived 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid with 100% yield at 1.4V (vs. RHE).
