Elemental mercury capture by graphene-analogous carbon nitride anchored with copper sulfide

Dongjing Liu et al.

Summary: This study successfully captured Hg-0 mercury from simulated flue gas of coal-fired power plants using graphene-analogous carbon nitride GCN, with CuS incorporation significantly enhancing the capture ability. Complete mercury capture was achieved with a loading value of 10 wt% CuS within a certain temperature range.

Copper Sulfide-Loaded Boron Nitride Nanosheets for Elemental Mercury Removal from Simulated Flue Gas

Dongjing Liu et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that CuS decoration can enhance the mercury capture efficiency of h-BN, with 10CuS/h-BN performing the best. The presence of NO inhibits Hg-0 removal to some extent, while the presence of SO2 hardly shows any impact on Hg-0 capture.

Insights into the Mechanism of Elemental Mercury Adsorption on Graphitic Carbon Nitride: A Density Functional Theory Study

Yang Ling et al.

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has been proven to be an effective adsorbent for elemental mercury (Hg-0) removal in flue gas due to its unique electronic structure and stability. The presence of active edge sites on g-C3N4 nanoplates enhances the Hg-0 adsorption ability, with surfaces defects playing a crucial role in the bonding mechanisms at the atomic level. The location of defects, particularly exposed surface nitrogen, significantly impacts the mercury capture ability of g-C3N4.

Global health effects of future atmospheric mercury emissions

Yanxu Zhang et al.

Summary: Mercury, a neurotoxin and pollutant, is projected to have reduced emissions due to policy efforts such as the Minamata Convention. A comprehensive global model developed in this study predicts significant health and economic impacts if emission reduction actions are delayed as required by the Convention.

Defective molybdenum disulfide nanosheet for elemental mercury capture in simulated flue gas

Lingtao Yang et al.

Summary: A defect-rich MoS2 nanosheet was synthesized and applied for adsorptive capture of elemental mercury (Hg-0) in simulated flue gas at low temperature, showing excellent Hg-0 removal performance. The Hg-0 removal efficiency of the defective MoS2 nanosheet was all above 93% within the temperature range of 25-150 degrees C. Mo-4(+), S-2(-), and S-2(2-) ions participated in the Hg-0 removal process.
