Accurate Quantification of Monoclonal Immunoglobulins Migrating in the Beta Region on Protein Electrophoresis

Nivin Omar et al.

Summary: This study eliminates C3 interference in densitometric measurement by heat treatment and removes the influence of transferrin on monoclonal Ig concentration measurement using subtraction method. This method improves the accuracy of measuring monoclonal Igs migrating in the beta region.

Light Chain Multiple Myeloma: High Serum Free Light Chain Concentrations Portend Renal Damage and Poorer Survival

Yulan Jin et al.

Summary: The study revealed that high serum free light chain concentrations in light chain multiple myelomas are associated with poor prognosis, renal impairment, and lower survival rates. Regular monitoring of serum free light chain concentrations and personalized treatments are necessary to address these parameters.

CAR T cell therapies for patients with multiple myeloma

Lekha Mikkilineni et al.

Summary: Despite significant therapeutic advancements, multiple myeloma (MM) remains incurable, highlighting the necessity for new treatment strategies. CAR T cell therapy, which targets specific cell-surface antigens, has shown promise in achieving objective responses in patients with relapsed and/or refractory MM. Further research is being conducted to improve the efficacy and safety of these therapies, with a focus on identifying new target antigens and enhancing BCMA expression on MM cells.

Analysis of Multiple Bands on Serum Protein Immunofixation Electrophoresis: Challenge in Interpretation of Clonality in a Patient with Light Chain-Predominant Multiple Myeloma

Okechukwu V. Nwogbo et al.

Summary: In patients with multiple myeloma, a single monoclonal immunoglobulin band is typically seen on serum protein immunofixation electrophoresis, but multiple bands can occur in certain cases. This case study highlights a patient with light chain-predominant IgA lambda myeloma, demonstrating two spatially distinct bands reacting for alpha heavy and lambda light chains in the serum. The methods for establishing monoclonality are discussed.
