National Trends and Disparities in Health Care Access and Coverage Among Adults With Asthma and COPD 1997-2018

Adam W. Gaffney et al.

Summary: Health coverage among adults with asthma and COPD improved after the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), but affordability of care and medications, as well as disparities based on race, ethnicity, and income, did not show significant improvement from 1997 to 2018. Further reform is necessary to address these gaps.

Socioeconomic Inequality in Respiratory Health in the US From 1959 to 2018

Adam W. Gaffney et al.

Summary: This study found that socioeconomic disparities in pulmonary health have persisted and even worsened over the past 60 years in the United States, suggesting that the benefits of improved air quality and reduced smoking have not been equally distributed. Socioeconomic status may function as an independent determinant of pulmonary health.
