Tectonic Regimes Inferred From Clustering of Focal Mechanisms and Their Distribution in Space: Application to the Central Mediterranean Area

L. Scarfi et al.

Summary: The study of kinematics and stress field related to seismicity is crucial for understanding tectonic processes. Unsupervised learning techniques were used to identify seismic homogeneous areas and reveal patterns in the focal mechanisms dataset of the Central Mediterranean region. This analysis allowed the identification of eight groups of focal mechanisms and their spatial distribution in the crust, showing the tectonic style of key sectors in southern Italy and neighboring offshore areas.

Active and passive seismic methods to explore areas of active faulting. The case of Lamezia Terme (Calabria, southern Italy)

Michele Punzo et al.

Summary: This paper presents the results of a geophysical investigation on the architecture of shallow stratigraphic horizons across an area believed to be crossed by a NW-SE trending trascurrent fault. Different geophysical methods were used to better understand the underground geological structures, providing important insights for earthquake prevention and construction work.

An Integrated Multiscale Method for the Characterisation of Active Faults in Offshore Areas. The Case of Sant'Eufemia Gulf (Offshore Calabria, Italy)

M. Corradino et al.

Summary: The study presents a multiscale approach to reconstruct the structural pattern and distinguish between shallow active faults and deep blind faults in offshore areas. The data highlights three major tectonic events since the Late Miocene. It suggests a connection between the Late Miocene to Recent transpressional/transitional structures and a potential seismogenic source for a large magnitude earthquake that struck the western Calabrian region in 1905.
