Expansion of the Family of Molecular Nanoparticles of Cerium Dioxide and Their Catalytic Scavenging of Hydroxyl Radicals

Kylie J. Mitchell et al.

Summary: The synthesis, crystal structures, and catalytic radical scavenging activity of four new molecular clusters obtained through a bottom-up molecular approach to nanoscale CeO2 are reported. These clusters, which expand our family of molecular nanoparticles of this metal oxide to seven members, exhibit excellent antioxidant activities and most have been found to correlate inversely with their surface Ce3+ content.

A High-Symmetry Double-Shell Gd30Co12 Cluster Exhibiting a Large Magnetocaloric Effect

Hui-Jie Lun et al.

Summary: A high-nuclearity 3d-4f cluster with a double-shell structure was synthesized, showing that separating Co2+ ions from Gd3+ ions can effectively reduce magnetic interactions. The cluster exhibits the largest magnetocaloric effect reported to date in 3d-4f metal clusters at 2 K and 7 T.
