Hydrothermal synthesis of magnetic sludge biochar for tetracycline and ciprofloxacin adsorptive removal

Yongfei Ma et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that biochar derived from municipal sludge activated by zinc chloride can be used as Fe/Zn-SBC with high adsorption capacity for tetracycline and ciprofloxacin. Fe/Zn-SBC is primarily influenced by pore filling, oxygen-containing groups complexation, pi-pi conjugation, and hydrogen bonding during the adsorption process, exhibiting high selective adsorption capacity.

New insights into the efficient removal of emerging contaminants by biochars and hydrochars derived from olive oil wastes

Laura Delgado-Moreno et al.

Summary: The study used hydrothermal carbonization and pyrolysis processes to convert olive oil production wastes into chars for the removal of emerging contaminants from water. Results showed that hydrochars with acidic pH values and rich in oxygenated functional groups had the highest adsorption rates.

Self-propagating synthesis of Zn-loaded biochar for tetracycline elimination

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The novel Zn-loaded biochar demonstrated excellent adsorption performance for TC, with a capacity of 159.64 mg/g, effectively addressing TC pollution in water. Zn-LBC showed minimal impact on the presence of different coexisting ions and humic acid, achieving satisfactory removal results in hospital wastewater.

Preparation of mesoporous batatas biochar via soft-template method for high efficiency removal of tetracycline

Zhihong Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel hydrothermal mesoporous biochar (HMC-800) was synthesized using a soft-template-assisted hydrothermal route for the adsorptive removal of tetracycline (TC) from wastewater. HMC-800 exhibited the highest specific surface area and total pore volume among all studied biochar samples, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 238.7 mg/g. The biochar showed superior adsorption performance compared to other samples, and demonstrated good regeneration and reuse capabilities.

Adsorption and removal of seven antibiotic compounds present in water with the use of biochar derived from the pyrolysis of organic waste feedstocks

Marinos Stylianou et al.

Summary: Biochars derived from various organic waste feedstocks were assessed for their adsorption capacity and mechanisms in the decontamination of antibiotics-contaminated environmental matrices. Results showed that the biochars efficiently removed a high percentage of antibiotics, with main mechanisms including surface complexation, H-bonding, pi-pi EDA interactions, and pore-filling effects.
