Accurate Determination of Zr Isotopic Ratio in Zircons by Femtosecond Laser Ablation MC-ICP-MS with Wet Plasma Technique

Summary: This work focuses on evaluating the use of femtosecond laser ablation multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (fs-LA-MC-ICP-MS) for Zr isotopic analysis in zircons. The study corrects for instrumental mass discrimination and investigates various instrument parameters. The results indicate that the developed fs-LA-MC-ICP-MS method is reliable for analyzing Zr isotope compositions in zircons and can be used to identify potential candidates for isotopic zoning.

Jilin zircon - a new natural reference material for microbeam U-Pb geochronology and Hf-O isotopic analysis

Summary: A new potential zircon reference material (Jilin) separated from gabbro diorite was introduced for microbeam U-Pb age and Hf-O isotope analysis, and the results obtained with multianalytical techniques clearly indicate that the U-Pb age and Hf-O isotopic composition are homogenous in Jilin zircon grains.

Long-term repeatability and interlaboratory reproducibility of high-precision ID-TIMS U-Pb geochronology

Summary: The study compared data from the geochronology laboratory of University of Geneva using ET100 and ET2000 solutions with results from Princeton University and ETH Zurich. It found that the choice of thermal ionization mass spectrometer model does not affect data precision and accuracy, and excess scatter in ET100 solution data can be reduced with careful tracer-sample equilibration. Additionally, natural zircon reference materials are not ideal for evaluating repeatability and reproducibility within and between laboratories due to their complexities.
