Implementing Full Spatial Coverage in NOAA's Global Temperature Analysis

R. S. Vose et al.

Summary: NOAA maintains an operational analysis for monitoring global surface temperature trends, but the limited polar coverage fails to fully capture the rapid warming in the Arctic. A new analysis with spatial completeness was introduced, showing significant warming globally and in the Arctic across all periods examined. The new analysis exhibits more significant warming in the Arctic since 1980 compared to the operational analysis, primarily due to coverage gaps.

An Updated Assessment of Near-Surface Temperature Change From 1850: The HadCRUT5 Data Set

C. P. Morice et al.

Summary: HadCRUT5 is a new version of a global surface temperature data set, incorporating sea-surface temperature and land near-surface air temperature measurements. Two variants are produced for different applications, with the combination of revised input data sets and statistical analysis resulting in greater warming of the global average over the entire record period.
