Modeling the Effect of DAV132, a Novel Colon-Targeted Adsorbent, on Fecal Concentrations of Moxifloxacin and Gut Microbiota Diversity in Healthy Volunteers

Jinju Guk et al.

Summary: A novel colon-targeted adsorbent DAV132 was developed to reduce antibiotic-induced perturbations on gut microbiota. An integrated pharmacological model was built to analyze the effects of DAV132 on fecal moxifloxacin concentration and gut microbiota diversity.

Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Studies of Nifedipine Loaded Microspheres for the Treatment of Hypertension

Chiman Lal et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the PK, PD, and distribution pattern of mucoadhesive microspheres of nifedipine. Results showed that mucoadhesive microspheres of nifedipine were present in the blood for a more extended period and effectively controlled blood pressure compared to conventional delivery methods.

A mobile microvolume UV/visible light spectrophotometer for the measurement of levofloxacin in saliva

Jan-Willem C. Alffenaar et al.

Summary: A simple, low-cost, and robust TDM method using mobile UV/VIS spectrophotometry to quantify Levofloxacin in human saliva has been developed for TB endemic settings. The method can be used for personalized dose adjustment in identifying patients with low Levofloxacin drug exposure.

Resistance/fitness trade-off is a barrier to the evolution of MarR inactivation mutants in Escherichia coli

Lisa Praski Alzrigat et al.

Summary: Experimental evolution did not identify any single pump-independent cost factor, but efficient fitness compensation occurred only by mechanisms that reduce MarA concentration, simultaneously reducing the drug resistance phenotype. This resistance/fitness trade-off serves as a barrier to the successful spread of MarR inactivation mutations in clinical isolates where growth fitness is essential.

Calcium channel blockers, survival and ischaemic stroke in patients with dementia: a Swedish registry study

I. Kalar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of calcium channel blockers on mortality and ischaemic stroke risk in dementia patients. It found that nifedipine was associated with increased mortality risk, while amlodipine was linked to reduced mortality risk in dementia patients with Alzheimer's disease and Lewy body/Parkinson's disease dementia. Amlodipine was also found to lower the risk of ischaemic stroke in Alzheimer's disease patients compared to other calcium channel blockers.

Development of a dual delivery of levofloxacin and prednisolone acetate via PLGA nanoparticles/ thermosensitive chitosan-based hydrogel for postoperative management: An in-vitro and ex-vivo study

Yung-Hsin Cheng et al.

Summary: A novel dual drug delivery system was developed using a thermosensitive chitosan/gelatin-based hydrogel containing prednisolone acetate and levofloxacin-loaded nanoparticles. This system demonstrated sustained release of drugs for 7 days and showed anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties in both ex-vivo and in vivo models, indicating its potential for preventing post-operative endophthalmitis.

pH-Sensitive Glycyrrhizin Based Vesicles for Nifedipine Delivery

Olga Yu. Selyutina et al.

Summary: This study investigated the supramolecular complex formation of glycyrrhizic acid with nifedipine at different pH values, showing the existence of the complex at all dissociation states of glycyrrhizic acid. Optical absorption experiments revealed reduced stability and solubility of the complex at pH > 6, leading to a higher release rate of the drug in neutral and basic environments. These findings could lay the foundation for future studies on glycyrrhizic acid self-associates as pH-controlled drug delivery systems.

Association between fluoroquinolone resistance and MRSA genotype in Alexandria, Egypt

Mustafa Alseqely et al.

Summary: The lack of strict adherence to antimicrobial stewardship in most Egyptian hospitals has led to increasing antibiotic resistance. This study conducted at Alexandria Main University Hospital found a high rate of moxifloxacin resistance among MRSA isolates, suggesting caution should be exercised when using moxifloxacin to treat MRSA infections.

Metal-free SHN cross-coupling of pyridines with phosphine chalcogenides: polarization/deprotonation/oxidation effects of electron-deficient acetylenes

Pavel A. Volkov et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that terminal acylacetylenes can catalyze the reaction of pyridines with secondary phosphine chalcogenides to produce chalcogenophosphorylpyridines under metal-free mild conditions. The mechanism involves migration of chalcogenophosphoryl groups in the intermediate and simultaneous redox elimination of vinyl ketone oligomers.
