Aqueous phase reforming of biodiesel byproduct glycerol over mesoporous Ni-Cu/CeO2 for renewable hydrogen production

Kai Wu et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized a Ni-Cu bimetallic catalyst supported on CeO2, which can effectively increase the H-2 production rate and inhibit methane formation in aqueous phase reforming. Furthermore, the addition of CaO can reduce the activation energy, improve the water-gas shift reaction, and decrease methane production.

Understanding Oxygen Release from Nanoporous Perovskite Oxides and Its Effect on the Catalytic Oxidation of CH4 and CO

Elisa Poffe et al.

Summary: The design of nanoporous perovskite oxides is an efficient strategy for developing sustainable catalysts for methane conversion, with their porosity influencing oxygen defect chemistry and catalytic activity. The synthesis of nanoporous materials with specific surface areas and pore sizes was developed, and high-temperature investigations showed improvements in oxygen release and diffusion. Catalytic tests demonstrated benefits in CO and CH4 conversion, with continuous oxygen release promoting long-term catalytic applications. The role of reducible metal center concentration and crystal structure also contribute to perovskite oxygen release properties.

Co-production of hydrogen and syngas from chemical looping water splitting coupled with decomposition of glycerol using Fe-Ce-Ni based oxygen carriers

Chuanqi Luo et al.

Summary: This study proposes a method to simultaneously produce hydrogen and syngas by combining chemical looping water splitting (CLWS) with glycerol decomposition using Fe-Ce-Ni based oxygen carriers (OCs). The prepared OCs demonstrate remarkable catalytic performance, achieving efficient hydrogen production from water splitting.

Effect of impurities of CH3OH, CH3COOH, and KOH on aqueous phase reforming of glycerol over mesoporous Ni-Cu/CeO2 catalyst

Kai Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of impurities (methanol, acetic acid, and potassium hydroxide) on aqueous phase reforming of glycerol using a mesoporous Ni-Cu/CeO2 catalyst at different temperatures. The results showed that temperature increase enhanced glycerol conversion into gas products but did not favor H-2 proportion. Potassium hydroxide had the greatest influence on gas phase composition, significantly increasing H-2 production and proportion.
