Rhodium-Catalyzed Atroposelective Construction of Indoles via C-H Bond Activation

Lincong Sun et al.

Summary: This study reports the rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H activation of anilines bearing an N-isoquinolyl directing group for oxidative [3+2] annulation with four classes of internal alkynes, leading to atroposelective indole synthesis via dynamic kinetic annulation with C-N reductive elimination constituting the stereo-determining step. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions with high regio- and enantioselectivity and functional group compatibility.

Efficient Synthesis of Sulfur-Stereogenic Sulfoximines via Ru(II)-Catalyzed Enantioselective C-H Functionalization Enabled by Chiral Carboxylic Acid

Tao Zhou et al.

Summary: An undeveloped Ru(II)-catalyzed enantioselective C-H functionalization involving an enantiodetermining C-H cleavage step has been described in this study. Using a novel class of chiral binaphthyl monocarboxylic acids as chiral ligands, a broad range of sulfur-stereogenic sulfoximines were synthesized in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield and 99% ee) via desymmetrization, kinetic resolution, and parallel kinetic resolution. Furthermore, the resolution products can be easily transformed into chiral sulfoxides and key intermediates for kinase inhibitors.

2-(Pyridin-2-yl)isopropyl (PIP) Amine: An Enabling Directing Group for Divergent and Asymmetric Functionalization of Unactivated Methylene C(sp3)-H Bonds

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the application of directed group (DG) assistance to address reactivity and selectivity challenges in C(sp(3))-H activation, achieving significant progress with the development of strongly coordinating bidentate DG and weakly coordinating monodentate DG strategies. The use of a novel strongly coordinating bidentate 2-(pyridine-yl)isopropyl (PIP) amine DG enabled divergent functionalization of unactivated beta-methylene C(sp(3))-H bonds, facilitating a series of important reactions.

Twofold C-H Activation-Based Enantio- and Diastereoselective C-H Arylation Using Diarylacetylenes as Rare Arylating Reagents

Panjie Hu et al.

Summary: A novel method for the construction of biaryls with central and axial chirality through rhodium-catalyzed 1:2 coupling of diarylphosphinic amides and diarylacetylenes has been reported. This new method shows better chemoselectivity compared to previously explored Miura-Satoh type 1:2 coupling, and proceeds under mild conditions using a rare arylating reagent.

Free three-dimensional carborane carbanions

H. D. A. Chathumal Jayaweera et al.

Summary: This work presents the synthesis and structural characterization of the free ortho-carboranyl [C2B10H11](-) and the doubly deprotonated 1,1'-bis(o-carborane) anion [C2B10H10](2)(2-), which are important intermediates in carborane chemistry. The study represents the first examples of a stable, discrete C(H)-deprotonated carborane anion and a discrete molecular dicarbanion, respectively. These findings contribute to the understanding of carbon vertex chemistry in carborane clusters.
