Steatohepatitic hepatocellular carcinoma: imaging findings with clinicopathological correlation

S. Inui et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinicopathological and radiological features of steatohepatitic hepatocellular carcinoma (SH-HCC). Findings showed common clinical features in SH-HCC patients, including obesity, hypertension, and history of heavy alcohol intake. SH-HCC typically presents with prominent fatty deposits and arterial phase enhancement on CT and MRI.

Gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI of macrotrabecular-massive hepatocellular carcinoma and its prognostic implications

Hyungjin Rhee et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize MTM-HCC on gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI and evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value of these imaging characteristics. Two diagnostic criteria were developed for MTM-HCC based on MRI findings which showed good sensitivity and specificity, and were associated with poor outcomes after hepatic resection.

A radiomics nomogram based on contrast-enhanced MRI for preoperative prediction of macrotrabecular-massive hepatocellular carcinoma

Yuemin Zhu et al.

Summary: This study developed a radiomics nomogram based on contrast-enhanced MRI for predicting MTM-HCC, selecting eleven important radiomics features and constructing a score combined with other imaging factors. The score showed good performance in predicting MTM-HCC, providing opportunities to improve the treatment course and patient outcomes.

Macrotrabecular-massive hepatocellular carcinoma: imaging identification and prediction based on gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging

Summary: Necrosis or severe ischemia was found to be a sensitive imaging feature of MTM-HCC, with a high specificity. The combination of specific findings allowed for noninvasive prediction of this subtype with good accuracy and excellent specificity.

Can primary hepatocellular carcinoma histomorphology predict extrahepatic metastasis?

Deepika Kumar et al.

Summary: This study compared the histomorphologic features and phenotypic heterogeneity between primary and metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using 39 cases with both primary and metastatic tissues. The findings revealed significant intratumoral heterogeneity and histomorphologic discordance between primary and metastatic HCCs, with certain histologic patterns and subtypes being closely associated with metastasis. Further studies on a larger cohort are needed to better understand the mechanisms of HCC metastasis.

Preoperative CT for Characterization of Aggressive Macrotrabecular-Massive Subtype and Vessels That Encapsulate Tumor Clusters Pattern in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Zhichao Feng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of preoperative CT in predicting the MTM subtype and VETC pattern of HCC. Specific CT imaging features were identified as predictors for tumor subtype, leading to the development of prognostic scoring systems. The predictive performance was validated in a separate cohort, with high ANH and high SN phenotype being independently associated with early recurrence after surgical resection.
