Radical polymer-grafted carbon nanotubes as high-performance cathode materials for lithium organic batteries with promoted n-/p-type redox reactions

Tao Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a covalently grafted organic radical polymer was successfully prepared on the surface of multi-walled carbon nanotubes via free radical polymerization, leading to an excellent electrode material. The enhanced electrochemical performance of the electrode was attributed to the mutual participation of two types of redox reactions, while capacity fading was mainly caused by irreversible side reactions during the n-type doping process.

Coupled In Situ NMR and EPR Studies Reveal the Electron Transfer Rate and Electrolyte Decomposition in Redox Flow Batteries

Evan Wenbo Zhao et al.

Summary: The study introduces in situ (online) EPR and coupled EPR/NMR methods to investigate redox flow batteries, focusing on the redox-active electrolyte 2,6-dihydroxyanthraquinone (DHAQ). By detecting and quantifying radical anions during electrochemical cycling, the concentration-dependent behavior of these species was determined. The combination of EPR and NMR techniques allowed for the determination of electron transfer rate constants and the correlation of concentration changes with capacity fade in the battery.

Microstructural Investigation into Na-Ion Storage Behaviors of Cellulose-Based Hard Carbons for Na-Ion Batteries

Jae-Bum Kim et al.

Summary: This study compares the sodium-ion storage behaviors of fiber cellulose-based hard carbon and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC)-based hard carbon, revealing the significant impact of the presence or absence of amorphous regions on the pore size and distribution of the carbons. The hard carbon obtained from MCC showed a high capacity due to plenty of open pores primarily less than 2 nm in size, as revealed by Na-23 MAS NMR analysis. The characteristic pore structure from MCC plays a key role in extending the reversible sodium storage of hard carbon.
