Degradation of metoprolol from wastewater in a bio-electro-Fenton system

Xiaoyong Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using bio-electro-Fenton (BEF) technology for the removal of the typical micropollutant metoprolol in water environments. The results showed that applied voltage and working pH significantly affected removal efficiency, while Fe2+ dosage had little effect.

Microbial fuel cells, a renewable energy technology for bio-electricity generation: A mini-review

KeChrist Obileke et al.

Summary: The study evaluates microbial fuel cells (MFCs) for generating electricity through biochemical reactions. MFCs can achieve high power density and chemical oxygen demand removal by selecting proper microbes, operation mode, suitable materials, and improved design. However, full-scale application is hindered by materials cost and wastewater buffering capacity, with industrial applications still at the demonstration stage. This research provides new perspectives and steps for scale-up by emphasizing microbe selection criteria and activity.

Integrated air cathode microbial fuel cell-aerobic bioreactor set-up for enhanced bioelectrodegradation of azo dye Acid Blue 29

Mohammad Danish Khan et al.

Summary: The study successfully degraded AB29 dye using an integrated SMFC-aerobic bioreactor system, achieving efficient decolorization and COD removal rates. Electrochemical and biological analyses demonstrated that using acetate as a co-substrate promoted the biodegradation of the dye, resulting in less contaminated compounds as degradation products.
