Purcell effect with extended sources: the role of the cross density of states

R. Carminati et al.

Summary: We analyze the change in the spontaneous decay rate, or Purcell effect, of an extended quantum emitter in a structured photonic environment. The cross density of states is shown to be the central quantity driving interferences in the emission process. Numerical simulations demonstrate that a structured cross density of states can induce subradiance or superradiance and significantly alter the emission spectrum. Interestingly, the spectral lineshape of the Purcell effect for an extended source cannot be predicted solely based on the spectral dependence of the local density of states.

Metasurfaces for quantum photonics

Alexander S. Solntsev et al.

Summary: Progress in the field of quantum-photonics applications of metasurfaces is rapidly advancing, enabling the development of optical chips and advanced quantum tomography. With the use of metamaterials and metaphotonics, bulky optical assemblies are being replaced with thin nanostructured films, leading to innovative approaches in controlling non-classical light properties.

Complete Electromagnetic Dyadic Green Function Characterization in a Complex Environment-Resonant Dipole-Dipole Interaction and Cooperative Effects

Kaizad Rustomji et al.

Summary: The Green function plays a central role in optics, electromagnetism, and acoustics by encapsulating a system's linear response to external sources. Experimental characterization of the full complex Green function is challenging, requiring amplitude and phase sensitive measurements with deep-subwavelength spatial resolution. High spatial resolution in characterizing the Green function provides a unique way to investigate cooperative effects in complex photonic systems.

Near-Field Imaging of Magnetic Complex Mode Volume

Niccolo Caselli et al.

Summary: This research discusses the electromagnetic nature of confined photonic modes through near-field perturbation experiments, focusing on the effect of the imaginary part of the magnetic modal volume VH on the quality factor of confined modes. The study shows how the spatial distribution of both the real and imaginary parts of VH can be inferred through near-field experiments.
