Developing Pictorial Cigarillo Warnings: Insights From Focus Groups

Jennifer Cornacchione Ross et al.

Summary: The research found that graphic or gross images are most effective at grabbing attention and discouraging cigarillo use. Participants preferred images that directly illustrate the warning text information, rather than abstract images that require more cognitive effort to understand. Furthermore, including people in the images, especially youth and young adults making eye contact, helped participants relate to the warnings, garner their attention, and positively influence their reactions.
